Wendy Crewson


One of Canada’s premier actresses, Crewson has garnered critical and popular acclaim, as well as numerous awards, for her extensive body of work in film and television. In 2006, Crewson received a Gemini Award for her portrayal of ‘Lorraine Evanshen’ in The Man Who Lost Himself, a television movie based on the story of CFL star Terry Evanshen; and the FIPA Best Actress Award in France for her powerful portrayal of ‘Chief War Crimes Prosecutor Louise Arbour’ in the dramatic television movie Hunt For Justice: The Louise Arbour Story. In 2003, she earned a Gemini Award for her lead performance in The Many Trials Of One Jane Doe. She also received Geminis for her title role performance in At The End Of The Day: The Sue Rodriguez Story, and for her guest-starring role in the hit series Due South. In 2000, Crewson was honoured with the prestigious Women in Film & Television (Toronto) – Crystal Award for Creative Excellence. 2007 is shaping up nicely for Crewson as she will be presented the ACTRA Award of Excellence.

With a filmography that includes over 100 titles, Crewson’s most recent credits include the indy feature Who Loves The Sun; Sarah Polley’s Away From Her, a feature based on a short story by Alice Munro; Renny Harlin’s action thriller The Covenant; and the family adventure Eight Below.

Crewson’s many credits also include her Gemini-nominated performance in the television drama Sex Traffic; Twelve Mile Road, opposite Tom Selleck; The Piano Man’s Daughter, based on the novel by Timothy Findley and co-produced by Whoopi Goldberg; the title role in the Shaftesbury wheel of movies Criminal Instinct: The Joanne Kilbourne Mysteries, for which she was Gemini nominated; Roger Spottiswoode’s The Matthew Shepard Story; and the role of ‘Dr. Anne Packard’ in multiple episodes of the hit drama series 24 with Kiefer Sutherland.

On the big screen, she starred in A Home At The End Of The World, with Colin Farrell and Sissy Spacek; The Clearing, with Robert Redford; Edoardo Ponti’s Between Strangers, with Sophia Loren; The Last Brickmaker In America, with Sidney Poitier; Anne Wheeler’s Suddenly Naked; The Sixth Day, with Arnold Schwarzenegger; Robert Zemekis’ What Lies Beneath, with Harrison Ford; Chris Columbus’ Bicentennial Man, with Robin Williams; and Anne Wheeler’s Better Than Chocolate, which premiered at the 1999 Berlin Film Festival and garnered the People’s Choice Award for Best Film at Toronto’s Inside Out Festival.

Crewson also starred opposite Harrison Ford in Wolfgang Peterson’s Air Force One; with Michelle Pfeiffer and Claire Danes in To Gillian On Her 37th Birthday; with Whoopi Goldberg in Corrina, Corrina; and alongside Tim Allen in The Santa Clause, The Santa Clause 2, and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.

Crewson also received acclaim and Gemini nominations for much of her earlier work, including the television dramas I’ll Never Get To Heaven, Getting Married In Buffalo Jump, and War Brides; and the series Home Fires, which earned her an ACTRA Award for her continuing role as ‘Kate.’

Crewson is also the recipient of the Gemini Humanitarian Award for her work with ALS.

A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Crewson received a Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University in Kingston before going on to study at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Crewson now makes her home in Toronto.
